9. Accessing iSCSI Storage

In this Lab you will be able to learn how to Add a VMkernal Port Group to a standard switch and how to configure the iSCSI Software Adapter.

To create a VMkernal port you have to go to > Host and clusters > Training > Lab Servers > select your ESXi host name > click on Manage and click on Networking. As you can see it in the below image you have to select virtual switched and do not forget to click on the vSwitch0 and click on Add host networking on the left-most icon.

when you clicked it you will get a new add networking window and you have to select the connection type  VMkernal Network Adapter and click next.

Select the target device and ensure that you Select an existing standard switch and click next.

In port properties type IP Storage as the network Label.

When you are on IPv4 settings use static and give a new IP and click next. after providing all the details, your VMkernal network adapter is ready click on finish.

After Creating the VMkernal Adapter we have to create the iSCSI Software Adapter.

With the iSCSI software based iSCSI implementation you can connect your host to a remote iSCSI target on the IP network by using NICs. the iSCSI software enables this connection by communicating with the physical NIC.

To create a iSCSI target you have to click on manage tab > click storage adapters > Add new storage adapter icon and select Software ISCSI adapter. and click ok.

When you create the new adapter it will show up at the adapter column click on it and you can see the adapter details, go to properties tab and check if the adapter status is enable or not, in general click on edit and verify the IQN if not matched change the IQN. click on network port binding tab which is under adapter details click on the green plus icon select the adapter you created and click ok.

click on network port binding tab which is under adapter details click on the green plus icon select the adapter you created and click ok.  click target and select Dynamic discovery and click on add. Type your IP address of the iSCSI.

When you have done the above steps click on rescan adapter button as you can see the below image you can see that the LUNs are active and connected.

When all the steps are completed you have completed lab 9.
